In according to the World Health Organization, CVD (Cardiovascular Disease) will be the number one cause of morbidity and mortality in the world by the year 2015 (WHO 2000); and it is assumed that Indians would be the most affected amongst all ethnic population.

Reports on CAD (Coronary Artery Disease) in Indians from different parts of the world have shown that Asian Indians are at 3–4 times higher risk of CAD than white Americans, 6 times higher than Chinese, and 20 times higher than Japanese.
